Can I take my break now?

The question seems to be fairly easily answered if your flipping burgers or something but not so for my wife. Shes's a nurse.

Working at the hospital can be trying experience even on the good days. You see being a nurse on one of the busiest units in the hospital can take a toll on anyone. Yesterday was just one example. Apparently, things were routine but for some reason Jody could not get away for a morning break. Now these nurses are on their feet for probably 90% of their 12 hour shift. There isn't much sitting around when you're dealing with extremely sick patients. That's just the way it is. She totally understands that. When the regular time for her morning break came and went, it wasn't a big deal. wasn't the first time......won't be the last. She finally got away to sit for a few minutes 4 hrs into her shift, that being 11:00.

She enjoyed her few minutes thinking well great lunch is around the corner. But wait just a minute. On goes the cape and she leaps into action. She gets away for her lunch break at 3:15( 8 hours into her shift).

Now she's lost all faith in the fact that she might actually enjoy her supper break within the next couple of hours. She becomes totally depressed and decides to eat her supper meal along with her lunch meal. That window of opportunity probably won't be there later.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention she suffers from acid reflux. Jees......I wonder why?????

As many of her coworkers can attest to, this is pretty normal when it comes to being a nurse. That's why they get into the profession. It's all part of the job. There's good days, bad days and really bad days. My hat goes off to all the health care workers that sacrifice their time to ensure the patient is getting the best care possible. She's an incredible person. She's changed the lives of many. Imagine what kind of world we'd have if only a few more of us thought this way?

I'm sure she doesn't mind skipping the odd break now and then and having to eat like it's her last meal in a week. Hey, it's nothing that TUMS can't fix......

What I spend money on

It seems that the spending part is easy for anyone. It's what you spend it on that becomes the difficult part. For me, it's usually easy come easy go. Sometimes choosing the split for me is an issue but as a family we manage okay.

I am a sports enthusiast to say the least. I enjoy participating and watching all kinds of activities. A great deal of money goes towards my passion, The Riders. We've had season tickets and gone to various away games over the years. Rider merchandise around the our house is abundant to say the least. It was slightly overboard a few years ago but, I've slowly down recently. The manager said I had to......

With both Jody and myself being shift workers it's difficult to get together with friends or family members as much as we would like. When we do, it's special for us. Planned holidays are a must. We try to get away somewhere when we can.

I enjoy putting time and money into my house and vehicle. That's a given. Just ask anyone.

I've always thought that anyone who says money doesn't buy you happiness doesn't know where to shop. Things are less stressful when the money is flowing.

I'm thankful for the way things have worked out. We are so fortunate to be able to buy the things we need most so easily. It's not like that everywhere.

The Great Whoville Wedding

The funniest thing happened today when the girls and I were sitting around talking about todays Royal Wedding featuring Prince William and Kate Middleton. We discussed some of the attendees that strolled along on our television screen. I couldn't understand why almost everyone was wearing fancy hats. There were all kinds. It appeared if you didn't have one you were a nobody. I guess that's what the British do. Suddenly, out of the blue Nikki mentions " It's like a whoville wedding". Well, we almost fell out of our chairs. That was too funny. I could see Cindy Lou, Sally O Malley, The Mayor, all of them. She was right. They were all there. The more I watched, the more I laughted. It was Brilliant.

I want my stadium

Do you think it's foolish to expect a new sports facility in our fine city? I am optimistic about the future plans to include a multi purpose facility along with ideas of rejuvenating downtown Regina. Some of you may remember it wasn't so long ago that I did up my own plans on a refurbished Mosaic Stadium. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that things could have turned in favor of a build new instead of a redo. It's amazing how many big names are in favor of this happening. It's not only the MPF talk but the entire city is bursting at the seems with new development.

Personally, I've been jealous at the fact that our neighbor city to the north ( Ya you Saskatoon) always seemed to draw the big concerts and events and we always settled for the left overs. It's about damn time we had our chance. Sounds like they're pretty upset that this is getting serious. I say TOO BAD...... you had your time, soon it will be ours.

It will be a great day when things finally get going.

Dog Daze

I must admit that our new puppy(Charlie) has been good for the family although things didn't go quite as well as we had liked. He's a mini dachshund that was only 3.5 lbs when we got him. Really, he was so small that none of us wanted to hold him in fear of dropping him. That being said, he wanted to cuddle and be held all of the time. I mean it was just like having a new born baby in the house again. It was a real adjustment for Jody, myself and the kids.

Even before we picked him up, the girls and I ran to the pet store and bought a bunch of items to ensure his first day went well. A crate, food, leash and toys were part of the first day buyings. It's really difficult not to spoil your pet but has anyone been to a pet store recently. Man they have everything. It's unbelievable.

On the second day home with us, the kids went to school, Jody went to work and I was left to stay with him at home. Only problem was that I had worked the previous night. Safe to say I didn't get much sleep that day. Maybe 3 hrs total. It was the first night shift of 4!!!!!! AHHHH!

The breeder we bought from started potty training him with Dog Litter. We thought things were gonna be great. It started off okay but slowly Charlie insisted on finding a different area rug to pee on. We ended up rolling up our expensive 6x10 area rug from the Great room into storage ( for time being). About a week later, Charlie didn't seem to be taking to his dry puppy food. He ended up going on antibiotics after a vet visit. They thought he might have an infection. A bowel infection brings lots of bowel movements. He had 8-9 for a few days. That was tough on everyone.

He is now 15 weeks old and things have improved greatly. He's accustomed himself to the surroundings quite well now. Everyone enjoys his presence so much that it's difficult to imagine life without him. Other pet owners will agree with me in saying that Charlie has improved our families way of life to a degree we can not describe. We love him to death.
